Microsoft’s Windows 8 Metro interface is being eagerly waited for, but the Redmond firm will not release it before late October.
However, Metroon, a Dreamboard theme for Apple’s jailbroken iOS devices, is offering a near-perfect replica of Microsoft’s Metro interface for those who cannot wait for the software any more.
The Dreamboard theme includes a Windows Phone OS-like fully equipped lock screen. It features notifications and volume controls, along with a swipe up to unlock feature. When a user activates Metroon it works in a similar way to Windows 8 Start Screen, and presents a launcher for applications with live tiles providing information on applications at a glance.
Users can pin all their iOS applications to the Metroon Start Screen, plus there is even a Charms bar that comes into appearance when the user swipe from the right-hand side of the screen of his/her iPhone or iPod Touch.
A desktop tile brings the familiar iOS home screen, while the Charms bar brings the user back into the Metro interface that is almost identical to Windows 8 OS’ desktop mode.
Overall Metroon’s Dreamboard theme for jailbroken iOS devices is impressively great, but the combination of a mixed mode of Metro and the default iOS notifications sometimes makes it confusing.
Metroon for iOS devices can be had from the Cydia store for $1.50.
